Edinburgh Writers and Poets and Outlander

Edinburgh, part two (of three)!

Today's photos are all linked to writers and poets.

World's End pub

Doom Bar beer, which I was drinking because that's what Detective Cormoran Strike drinks in the Robert Galbraith novels.
Strike does not have a sleeping baby in the vicinty.

Hamilton and Young, jewellery designers, on the Royal Mile, and their Outlander display!
I bought a lovely pair of Dragonfly in Amber earrings, a couple of gifts, and a Craigh na Dun Christmas ornament!

Our first logo for the Outlander Switzerland group, with Graham McTavish's appreciation!

Where Johnson once stayed...

Lord Byron's costume at the Writer's Museum

The poet Fergusson and the churchyard
Where the poet Shelley stayed when he ran away with Mary

I haven't read any Fergusson yet, but I've actually been doing rather well with my new ROW80 goal of reading the books I already own -- and with my hope from last year's review of books read that I would read more poetry.

Here are the latest poems:

Career by Yevtushenko
Human life in this century by Yevtushenko
Willow by Anna Akhmatova
Sonnet LXVI by Shakespeare
Sir Walter Raleigh to His Son
Fair Jenny by Robbie Burns
MacPherson's Farewell by Robbie Burns
O Wert Thou In The Cauld Blast by Robbie Burns
The Rolling English Road by G. K. Chesterton
Ode on Venice by Lord Byron

Have you read -- or written -- a poem lately?

Those photos bring back memories. I enjoyed visiting Edinburgh and exploring the Royal Mile.

Love this set of memories taking me back to Edinburgh as well -- a month of research and writing in the apartments (no elevator, 7th floor) across from the Writers' Museum. And poetry. Yes, I want to read more poetry. Wrote a little poem this morning but not all poems are posted! Enjoy your travels and your journey home.

I think I read poetry every Wednesday when I go blog hopping. At least. Even wrote some last week. Ah, poetry, that's a happy place.

I love reading and writing poetry! I haven't written any since early last year. Novel writing has taken center stage for me, and I challenged myself last year to write some new stuff. I would love to make this a regular practice. Need more time in the day!

Love the pics!
Recently read a Robert Frost book. Some other poetry, here and there. I haven't written a new poem since October, but there will be more poetry in my future, I'm sure.

Love your pictures - you give me the chance to travel without even leaving the house! =)

I'm so jealous of all these people who have visited Scotland! *sigh* :O) It's a bucket list item for me.
Hi Deniz - I've never really spent time to sightsee in Edinburgh - one day I must go back. I was there as a youngster for the Edinburgh festival .. but I was 'too young' and with elder cousins - who I was in awe of.

Now you've an Outlander group in Switzerland .. you are always enterprising and so busy. Lovely photos .. and the beer - has to be good .. while the jewellery I bet is lovely ...

I'd never heard of Robert Fergusson - what a sad life .. but so tragic he died so young ... yet what an amazing influence he's had.

Take care and cheers and thanks for all the sharing .. Hilary

I'm so jealous! Mister and I went to Scotland for our honeymoon last year, but we didn't get to spend any time in Edinburgh. I guess that's an excuse to go back!

Just out of curiosity, what kind of baby carrier are you using? I'm thinking about getting one for Little Roo, but I don't know which one would be best.

I haven't recently written any poetry, but I have read some--a few posts back I introduced an Australian poet that I became familiar with thanks to a commercial in the Australian Open in which they read a piece of his poetry to promote tourism. Edinburgh is a neat city--I'd love to spend more time there as I've only spent a couple of days there and they were pretty busy.

Great pictures! And I really like that statue of Fergusson for some reason. =)

Thanks, all!

Beth, that sounds like a wonderful month.

Ooh, sage, I'll look for your Australian poet post.

It's a Baby Bjorn, Lara. Very easy to use and comfortable, especially if you take the time to properly adjust all the harnesses and straps (which we weren't doing in the beginning, but as she gained weight started to pay attention to, and boy did it make a difference!).

Glad you found the Australian poet... I never labeled that post "poetry" as I've mostly reserved that label for poems I've written (but I see, looking back, I did review a couple of books of poetry there, so maybe I should label it... I, too, love the heave and the swell of the boat and especially his line about the "decks that lip the sea"

And of the thousands of miles I've hiked, to think that my first serious leg injury occurred on a sailboat...

A real sailboat? That's one of those maybe-if ever-bucket list things... I've only been on one once and really don't know anything about it, but it would be fun to take sailing lessons...
