IWSG Day and Visit to Ottawa and Montreal Photos 3/3

Canada photos, last batch!

But first, it's Insecure Writer's Support Group Day!

The awesome co-hosts for the October 2 posting of the IWSG are Nancy Gideon, Jennifer Lane, Jacqui Murray, and Natalie Aguirre!

Every month, we announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.

Remember, the question is optional

October 2 question - Ghost stories fit right in during this month. What's your favorite classic ghostly tale? Tell us about it and why it sends chills up your spine.

Ooh, mine are always tales in which there are elements that can't be controlled -- malicious ones that are after you.

One of the best is the creatures in The Enchanted Castle by E Nesbit.

A group of children with a magic ring create an audience for their play, made up of old coats and brooms and things. They call them the Ugly-Wuglies. The children wish the audience was alive, so that they could clap.

The Ugly Wuglies come to life and, yes, they clap, but they don't stop there.

The first question one of them asks is, "'an 'oo 'irect 'e 'o a 'ood 'otel?"

And it turns out they are mean. They attack an adult and wreak other havoc before the children manage to magic them away--all except one, who turns out to be a businessman in London. Only by the end of the novel is he dealt with, leaving behind a heap of clothes in his office.

The children keep wishing they could go back to a calm day of doing nothing but eating apples and reading books -- which sounds like heaven to me.

I first read this story decads ago, and the fear of creatures with ill-intent, that you can't reason with, has always stuck with me.

I even wrote a story featuring the Ugly-Wuglies!

And now, blackberries and more, from a visit to Canada in August!

Beauutiful photos especially the rainbow. It was huge?
Rainbow is cool.
Those kids learned to be careful what they wished for!

Thank you both! It was huge! And for a moment, it was a double rainbow, too!
I like that Ugly-Wuglies story!

And some of those pictures look really familiar. I live in Ottawa, so I've probably walked some of those trails.

I heard about E. Nesbit but never read anything by her. Perhaps I should try.
The rainbow photo is truly wonderful.
I can see the ghost of a second rainbow in your photo, so appropriate for this month's #ISWG theme.
As for scary stories: My fav spooky tales are chicken-skin tales about urban stories of night marchers, and of Madame Pele, the volcano goddess, who appeared along the roadside when people were in need.

Anonymously Est5her, East of the Sun. Two English cities, Leeds and Manchester, ( have family in both) seem to share a malicious goblin creature - a boggart.,Trying to escape, one family were asked if they were moving. From their cart, the boggart answered. Aye neighbour, we're flittin' Boggart- like bhut.
