New Books by Kait Nolan and Patrice Lawrence
Losing everything was supposed to be the end. It might be the beginning.
I’ve built my life around moving on. New places. New projects. New causes. Make an impact, then keep going. It worked—right up until a scandal I never saw coming burned my reputation to the ground… and a house fire took everything else. Now I’m stuck in a small mountain town with nothing but borrowed clothes, a growing list of problems, and a firefighter next door who refuses to let me fall apart quietly.
Colter Gibson is steady, capable, and entirely too easy to lean on. A single dad with deep roots, a protective streak a mile wide, and a way of looking at me like I’m something other than a hot mess.
Letting him help was supposed to be temporary. So was staying in Gibson Hollow. So was whatever this thing is igniting between us.
But the longer I’m here, the harder it is to pretend he doesn’t feel like home. And when the life I lost comes calling, I have to decide…
Do I go back to who I was—
Or risk everything for the one place—and the one man—that makes me want to stay?
In a town that takes care of its own, sometimes you have to learn how to let yourself be one of them.
I love stories about neighbours working together and of organization out of chaos! It's heartwarming and comforting to watch Gibson Hollow rebuild and to keep the best from its past, even as it welcomes someone new.
Swayze's background isn't entirely new to readers -- she's linked to the Eden Ridge (Misfit Inn) series, and that's another thing I love -- book crossovers!
Swayze and Colter fall hard and fast, but both are wary...of everything. The timing of their relationship, whether they should take a chance, how their pasts will be perceived... I was rooting for them from the start, and I loved watching the town (led by the Sasspatch Society!) rally about them.
I've never had an occasion to use the phrase IYKYK in a review before, but -- Chekhov's hips!
Various books by Patrice Lawrence!
Patrice Lawrence was a guest at the kids' school, and a few lucky parents got to attend a writing workshop in the evening!
I'd read Needle the week before the workshop and since the event, I've read many of her other books, all of which I'd recommend!
They're all different, whether you're looking for found family tales or struggling family stories or humorous magical realism or historical fantasy, or something else altogether!
Of the books I read, People Like Stars is the newest one (along with book 3 in the Elemental Detectives series, which are wonderful!)
Three 13-year-old strangers are connected by one big secret.
Nervous Ayrton was stolen away from his mum as a baby. He was returned safely, but now Mum won't let him out of her sight.
Curious Stanley has a Forbidden Grandmother. His mum won't even talk about her.
Homeless Sen has finally found a place to live, but she'll be out on the street if she upsets her secretive landlady.
What happens when their paths cross...?
There's talk of putting out a one-off podcast featuring some of the short pieces we wrote during the workshop. I'll keep you posted!
Thank you to everyone who's been coming by and commenting! I love seeing those messages pop up in my email.
