February in the Valley: Photos of Snow and Fog and Toblerones

Winter is still lingering in the northern hemisphere!

We've had lots of fog, due to living in a bowl between mountain chains, but drive up a few hundred metres and there's sunshine and snow

These photos are from last month, when it snowed down in our valley, too, and then there are some shots of fog, and bonfires and other traditions...:

Pizza in Lausanne!

Love the name of these bottle sizes (shown below):
Magnum, Jeroboam, Reoboam, Methusalem, Salmanazar, Balthazar, and Nebuchadnezzar

Founex street

Richard Burton's grave

Welsh anthem

Street in Rolle, which reminds me of Montreal and Quebec City in this shot

Rolle castle. Small person for scale.

Toblerones!

The Toblerone Trail is a military defense line built over 10 km during World War II.
The concrete blocks were meant to serve as tank traps, just in case.

Cowbells

Cuckoo clocks

Sketch of a former Roman villa in Nyon

Annual Christmas tree bonfire!

There are also some sausages roasting in tinfoil...

ROW80 is going well!

My schedules are arranged by month, at this moment.

In between blogging in advance for the A to Z Challenge (yes! I have a theme! And only 10 more posts left to schedule in advance!), and beta reading, and other life and family and work stuff, February is devoted to reading The Charm of Time on paper.

March is allocated to entering all those edits. April, I should ideally be sending The Charm of Time to betas while working on revisions to Druid's Moon suggested by the beta round for that story.

I've also got to write a synopsis, since it's one of the submission requirements for the small publisher I'd like to query...

Is winter or summer nearly over where you are?
Or are you dreaming of escape?

Do you miss Canada? I would love to live in Europe and get to travel to so many places. But I know I would miss my home.
Hi Deniz - we've had 'terrible' foggy weather here - no difference between land, the Channel and the sky ... but thankfully haven't had the cold that much down here. Love the Christmas tree fire and the thought of sausages cooking ...

The little one is growing - bet she enjoy the snow - I guess it's her future life ... Canadian snow! Wonderful photos ... and glad you're so well organised with your blogging and writing life - glad you're doing the A-Z ... good luck with all things! Cheers Hilary

Great photos! Savannah doesn't really have winter, but we do have a fair amount of fog this time of the year.
Both the snow and the fog shots have a sense of eerie about them.
Now those are real pizzas.
As always, your pictures entice and draw one.... I can see what you mean about that one image would remind you of streets in Montreal.

Hooray for having your theme and plan for the A to Z. I can never get myself organized for that challenge in time. Though... I probably should try it one of these days. I'd be with some really awesome company, such as yours truly.

Yes, Deniz, i'm dreaming of escape -- from heatwaves to snow. My daughter is living in the UK and keeps sending me photos of snow falling outside her window while I have to resort to photos of frying eggs on my car bonnet, LOL!

Love the photos. So interesting to see Richard Burton's grave. Where is it actually? And your daughter is looking so grown up!

Denise :-)
After very little snow in December and January, we finally got enough for our snow-bunny daughter to play in! I'm happy to watch it, shovel it, and then hop into my battered and elderly Subaru.

Eventually, we may live in Oregon's Willamette Valley, where snow is much less common, and tends not to stay. I guess the "someday" is enough of an escape.

My a to z theme this year is something I've been trying to figure out how to write about for years. I've got all my posts drafted, but have slowed down some with the editing, embellishing, and finalizing details. But since it's on my February goals list, I expect to be done with it or nearly so by month's end.

Love all the pictures. We used to roast rabbit in our campfires, before the children were born and we had pet rabbits!

How I love your pics! I'd love to travel Europe like you do! Good luck on the writing/editing. I'd love to beta the Charm of Time, too. ;-)
That's interesting that you visited Lausanne; actually, I was thinking of applying to a job at a school there, so I've been curious as to what it's like. And those pictures look great, especially the one of the pizza. :)

Hi Denise,

I love, love, love your photos. And your daughter is so grown up now. We are in such a hot humid weather at the moment that I wish we were somewhere where we could get some snow.

Wonderful series of photos. The snow looks lovely, but I guess I'll stick with the intermittent, though at times incessant, rains that we've been having in L.A.

Glad to hear that you are preparing for A to Z. I've been mapping out a tentative theme, but no writing yet. Par for my course.

I don't miss Canada so much as the idea of Canada, if that makes sense Sara. We lived for a year in Turkey a long time ago, and for some reason felt like we had to go back to Canada -- I'm trying not to make that mistake of rushing home again, but enjoying being here as much as we can!

Denise, his grave is in the cemetery behind the village of Celigny. I've shared photos on the blog before, not sure if they come up if you Google it? There might be a few photos floating around of the funeral service in the 80s, and Elizabeth Taylor's secret visit...

Ooh, Neurotic, apply, apply! Lausanne would be a great place to live and work!

So glad you all enjoyed the photos!
