Summertime Travels I: Oxford!

Oxford!

We were taking trains back and forth to the Midlands on a recent visit to see family, and stopped off in Oxford. Like London, Edinburgh, and other places, there's always something new to see, even if you've visited Oxford before.

Hope you enjoy a few photos!

The Museum of Natural History

Dinosaurs!

 Look out!

 Tyrannosaurus Rex head

 Wee dinosaur for scale

I couldn't even fit T Rex into the photo frame!

Philosophers and scientists!

 Darwin

 Hippocrates

 Harvey

 Galileo

 Newton

I'm still influenced by my first-time read of Moby Dick a couple of months ago. Look at the size of this single vertebra of a Southern Right Whale!:

Tolkien's pubs!

 The Eagle and Child

Inspector Morse at the Lamb and Flag

History of the Lamb and Flag

Thomas Hardy reference to the Lamb and Flag

The little one happened to be holding a lamb when we were at the Lamb and Flag...

Back in real life, I'm far behind on blog comments and a little behind my goals for ROW80.

The latest deadline for the Carina Press call for submissions is approaching fast, though, and I've got to get my synopsis done this week!

I can't believe it's almost September. Where does the time go?

Which towns do you love to revisit?

We drove through oxford once but didn't get to stop and see anything. Someday...

Good luck on the synopsis and submission.
Hi Deniz - so glad you got back to Oxford to see your favourite city. I think probably London has taken over as my favourite place ... probably because there is so much to see. Though I did do a quick visit in May back to Oxford ... to tour the Bodleian, see the new wing, and to meet Emily Hobhouse's archivists - as her papers are now deposited there. Cheers to a happy autumn ... Hilary

Good luck with your synopsis for Carina Press!

Lovely pictures!
I'm envious of all the traveling you get to do, but I do like your pictures too. :) I wish it wasn't almost September; it always feels like summer isn't long enough, and winter feels like it will never end.

Those travel pictures and memories are wonderful. Thank you for sharing. It doesn't matter so much about ROW80 goals/progress, for after all, aren't these kinds of experiences what feeds our writing? Great trip. I remember our month-long stay in England with affection . . . Stonehenge, British Museum, York. Welcome home.

Although I have spent a fair amount of time in the UK, I have yet to go to Okford. Thanks for the pictures!
