First Annual #AtoZChallenge Book Reviews, Tour, and Blog Hop! -- Balaka Basu, and a Dylan Thomas Poem for Saint David's Day

Welcome to the first Annual #AtoZChallenge Book Reviews, Tour, and Blog Hop!

The final author in the blog hop on my blog is Balaka Basu!

Golden Rainbow
(2018; biography and memoir; a diverse book)

"Golden Rainbow is an interesting collection of 26 memoirs written as short stories. These are not heroic tales but ordinary stories of ordinary people; nevertheless, they are thought-provoking.

"Some of them will make you laugh out loud while others may make you cry. The stories are rich in emotion, empathy and compassion. They are deeply profound. Reading the short stories is like a visit to Kolkata and typical Bengali life. You will connect with so many characters from your own real life but with different names. The anecdotes are not just stories but also a smart commentary on the various aspects of society. Easy to read, they will directly appeal to anyone fond of short stories. This book is not just a one-time read. It gets better with each reading."

Available at Amazon India and Amazon!

Exclusive tour content: A never-before-seen quote from the book!:
"I was a golden bird inside a golden cage, now I have wings to fly."

Why did you take part in the A to Z Challenge the year that your book was given life?
I just wanted to blog regularly and write.

Why did you start blogging?
To give words to my emotions.

As a reader, what most motivates you to buy a new book to read?
The blurb.

Find out more about Balaka Basu and get in touch at her blog.

Hope you've enjoyed this final spot on the tour!

Next week I might finally have my Books Read in 2018 post prepared! Not to mention my overdue reviews of last year's writing and other hobbies, and a revamp of my goals for this year. I've slowly begun editing The Handful of Time, Christianne and Rory's sequel.

Tomorrow is Saint David's Day!

Here's a lovely poem by Dylan Thomas: "Poem in October", published in February 1945:

Do you read biographies and memoirs?
Do you prefer them to be personal or told in a more objective style?

Hi Deniz - Balaka Basu's Golden Rainbow book sounds so fascinating ... tales about Kolkata and Bengali life ... must be an interesting book to read and to learn so much from. Balaka's reasons for blogging and joining the challenge make sense and look what she's achieved ... thanks for sharing with us.

Dylan Thomas's poem ... interesting start to it: 'it was my thirtieth year to heaven' ... I'll look it up later on ... looking forward to all your lists - cheers Hilary

Thanks for sharing this post.
And thank you for taking part in our first book hop.
My favorite genre is memoir; my bookcase is full of memoirs. For me, real life stories are often more interesting than fiction. I especially like funny creative nonfiction writers like Jen Lancaster and Dave Barry because of how they can make the ordinary sound not only hilarious but interesting.
