IWSG Day and a Visit to Romainmotier

Today is Insecure Writer’s Support Group day!

I’ve got photos of our first trip in six months, to a wee village only an hour or so away.

But first, the March 3 question: Everyone has a favourite genre or genres to write. But what about your reading preferences? Do you read widely or only within the genre(s) you create stories for? What motivates your reading choice?

Ooh, I read widely! I read romance and thrillers and historicals and romances outside my own time periods, and I read lots and lots of Middle Grade and YA. Plus short stories, classics, novels in other languages... My favourite thing is to follow up on authors and stories mentioned by other authors and in other stories!

The awesome co-hosts for the March 3 posting of the IWSG are Sarah - The Faux Fountain Pen Jacqui Murray, Chemist Ken, Victoria Marie Lees, Natalie Aguirre, and JQ Rose!

Very excited about our upcoming IWSG publication!

Dark Matter: Artificial
An Insecure Writer’s Support Group Anthology

Discover dark matter’s secrets…

What is an AI’s true role? Will bumbling siblings find their way home from deep space? Dark matter is judging us—are we worthy of existence? Would you step through a portal into another reality? Can the discoverer of dark matter uncover its secrets?

Ten authors explore dark matter, unravelling its secrets and revealing its mysterious nature. Featuring the talents of Stephanie Espinoza Villamor, C.D. Gallant-King, Tara Tyler, Mark Alpert, Olga Godim, Steph Wolmarans, Charles Kowalski, Kim Mannix, Elizabeth Mueller, and Deniz Bevan.

Hand-picked by a panel of agents, authors, and editors, these ten tales will take readers on a journey across time and space. Prepare for ignition!

Tolkien Reading Day is coming up!

"What is Tolkien Reading Day? Tolkien Reading Day is held on the 25th of March each year. The date of the 25th of March was chosen as the date on which the Ring was destroyed, completing Frodo’s quest and vanquishing Sauron.

It has been organised by the Tolkien Society since 2003 to encourage fans to celebrate and promote the life and works of J.R.R. Tolkien by reading favourite passages. We particularly encourage schools, museums and libraries to host their own Tolkien Reading Day events."

And now... all the Romainmotier photos!

The village lies on the Nozon river, and the monastery was founded by Romanus of Condat in the fifth century (!). The oldest parts of the abbey date from the tenth century.

Have you travelled anywhere in your neighbourhood recently?

Comments

Hi Deniz - No ... !!!! If I can answer your last question, first. So glad you were able to get out of your neighbourhood and have a break with the kids - the pony farm looks quite delightful - while the scenery and village are just delightful.

Congratulations on your entry into the anthology ... and to enjoying the Tolkien Reading Day ... have fun - cheers Hilary
You liked that waterfall!
You are so fortunate to live in such a great area to explore. So much history.

Beautiful pictures!
I like to read widely, too--a little bit of everything!
Looks like a fascinating little village. I'm so envious of the deep and long history of Europe.

I keep reading the towns name as "Half-Roman" though, which I know is not correct but still makes me laugh.

So glad you all enjoyed the photos! It was really fascinating to be walking in places with direct links to people who'd settled there 1500 years ago...
