IWSG Day and CampNaNoWriMo
|
Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!
Posting:
The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer - aim for a dozen new people each time - and return comments. This group is all about connecting!
Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG.
Let’s rock the neurotic writing world!
Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG.
The awesome co-hosts for the July 5 posting of the IWSG are PJ Colando, Kim Lajevardi, Gwen Gardner, Pat Garcia, and Natalie Aguirre!
Every month, we announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.
Remember, the question is optional!
July 5 question - 99% of my story ideas come from dreams.
Where do yours predominantly come from?
So do mine!
I get so many ideas from dreams, I love that feeling.
Other sources of inspiration:
Images (art or photographs) of lovely moments, like that painting of the couple wooing each other by a farmyard fence. I think of it as "nothing ever changes, huh?"
I feel really badly that I didn't make a note of the artist's name when I posted it on tumblr.
Single lines from other stories and authors. Past lines have included:
- A library card from the Library of Alexandria (Neil Gaiman)
- Each time, he thought it would be different (Diana Gabaldon)
- They had an area for everyone to hang their art in the galley (moosh)
- Long ago, in the days when there were still fish in the oceans and cars on the roads, there lived a woman who was not afraid of governments (also Neil Gaiman)
The last one is from my story in the 2021 IWSG Anthology!

You know it's the ride to hell, because the red woman just got off
I've just completed CampNaNoWriMo!
I didn't mean to complete it early, but I put off everything else except work and reading (I now, I know, I'm really so far behind in blog comments, I'm sorry!), and wrote a lot over the weekend and every night! Now I need to edit the story...
What are some of your sources of inspiration?
Comments
I get ideas from images as well.
