Working Really Hard!

Zounds! It's nearly nighttime and I still haven't updated my ROW80 status. This time, I don't even have excuses - I've been working all weekend!

Finally cracked 140,000 words; I'm at 139,932 at the moment and hopefully going down. Only 50 pages left to go of square bracket and highlight clearing and then I'll have a clean manuscript to read.

A little daunting, actually.

Out of the 10 Reasons Why Writers Might Drink, number 6 is the most like me: "You're sure you've finished polishing your manuscript. Sure. Positively, absolutely sure. Then you see the phrase 'this writing sucks, this writing sucks' mid-way down page 53."

This is what I'm scared of; what if I go back to reread the whole story and find it's awful?

But no, no room for that sort of thinking. Must... keep... going... Butt in chair, right? That's the only way to finish a novel.

Hope everyone's had a great (writing) week! For inspiration:

I muzzle my internal editor by telling myself to ignore the voice and keep on moving. If I'm moving forward, she's gotta catch up with me to pile on the criticism and while my mind is occupied, I can't think about the negatives.

If the writing does suck in part, you can rewrite it! I know there are parts of my MS that suck - and I'm up to my paper edit stage. But yeah...there are bits I'm prepared to be cringing over sometime soon. hehe

Thanks for the support Joy and Trisha! I just have to buck up and keep reading and editing. You're right, of course, that's what re-writing is *for*!

It won't suck. You'll just have enough distance to see what works and what doesn't and how to fix it.

Been there, done that. Good luck!

It won't suck, because it doesn't suck. So there!

Good luck and keep on trucking!

Deniz....Maybe another scenario will play out. As I've been typing away...(Jeepers I think I'll never type again) of course, I've tweaked a number of sentences/scenes, but gosh, I realized that I really love my story. I think this will happen for you too. ~Nadja

140K? That must be quite a story! I hope that I can be as productive as you've been this week. :-)

I'm re-reading my story for the first time. I'm worried about what I'll find in there.

Yeah that fear creeps up on me too. I just keep writing until it fades. When I'm done, I leave my writing for a while. If I reread immediately after finishing, everything reads as "this sucks".

Good luck!

Butt in chair is the only way forward. Keep going! You can do it. :)

I have to silence the inner voice at times. It might rule me and I'll never submit anything.

Good luck with your writing. I need to go back to revising my wip.

Thanks Liz and Sara - I'm down to 136,000!
I'll bet yours'll be fine Naina - now if only I could convince myself of that...
Thank you anja!
Thanks Misha and Jayne. I have to work on it everyday, otherwise the fears start up.
Good luck on your revisions, Medeia!
Aw, thanks, Carol. Hope you had a great weekend too!
