Canadian Books Challenge

Canadiana!

Some time ago, I blogged about the Canadian Books Challenge; here's the list I came up with at the time:

British Columbia - Willow and Twig by Jean Little

Alberta - none

Saskatchewan - none

Manitoba - Who is Frances Rain? by Margaret Buffie

Ontario - Alligator Baby by Robert Munsch, A House Far From Home by Budge Wilson, and Runaway by Bernice Thurman Hunter (in this case, the author's from Ontario, but the story takes place in England!)

Québec - Mary Ann Alice, and Boy O'Boy, both by Brian Doyle (this is a stretch, as these books take place in and around the Gatineau River Valley, which straddles Ontario and Québec)

New Brunswick - honourable mention to Before Green Gables by Budge Wilson, which takes place mostly in Nova Scotia, but mentions places in New Brunswick

Newfoundland and Labrador - none

Nova Scotia - a lot: Breakdown, Lorinda's Diary, Thirteen Never Changes, and Mystery Lights at Blue Harbour by Budge Wilson; Rainy Days with Bear by Maureen Hull; and Real Mermaids Don't Need High Heels, and Real Mermaids Don't Hold Their Breath by Hélène Boudreau

Prince Edward Island - Anne of Green Gables, of course. I reread this book often.

Nunavut - none

Northwest Territories - none

Yukon - none

I can think of more this time, especially if I widen the list to authors and not only books set in particular places.

But I still haven't read any authors from New Brunswick or Newfoundland or Yukon or Northwest Territories. If anyone has any recommendations, please tell me!

British Columbia - Timothy Forner

Alberta - Kit Pearson and WP Kinsella

Saskatchewan - Guy Gavriel Kay and WO Mitchell and Guy Vanderhaeghe

Manitoba - Ken Finkleman and Jon Klassen and Margaret Laurence and Marshall McLuhan

Ontario - Jemi Fraser, of course! Farley Mowat and Timothy Findley. And Vanessa Ricci-Thode!

Québec - Catherine Mckenzie and Louise Penny

Nova Scotia - Rachel Reid and Evelyn Eaton. I've blogged before about Evelyn Eaton's wonderful books!

Also Hugh MacLennan. How did I not mention him last time?!

Prince Edward Island - Milton Acorn

Nunavut - honourable mention to blogger Osborn Fiber Studio

And now, some photos of Earth Day in the gardens!

Did you spot the frog in the pond?

Alistair MacLeod ("Islands", and "No Great Mischief." He's from Cape Breton area. I thought Annie Proulx for Newfoundland, but then discovered she's actually American but set "The Shipping News" there.
