ROW80 update! Writing Wrap-Up by Decade Part 3 and Barcelona Photos 4/4

Big fun!

But first, A Round of Words in 80 Days update!

My last proper ROW80 post was in March! Here it is, with updates in italics:

Keep up with blogging and thelitforum (plus the reading, knitting, baking, etc.!): I'm keeping up! I know I owe some comments! I've been having a great time on my book blog tour, thank you so much to everyone who hosted and/or commented!

Check all "writing to do" and type up all notes on paper and collate all story ideas and ideas from dreams, and all story drafts and research and Save to Scrivener notes in my emails, ideally into my lovely new Kate Davies journal... Organize all Scrivener files: Er, this is moving very slowly, but I'm happy to report that it is moving. My gmail labels are getting more organized by the day!

Figure out what to do with the orts, such as the CampNaNoWriMo2015 story The Heathen in the Hold, and others, including items such as this post-apocalyptic story idea I wrote in 2010, based on a dream, the idea mentioned in my 2016 recap, and all other such half-formed notions: This is not moving at all, except for The Heathen in the Hold, to which I add a few thousand words a year during CampNaNo. On the other hand, I did send out two or three submissions, for The Charm of Time and Captive of the Sea. Rejections all around, boo hoo! The next one to concentrate on, I think, is the short story "The Tattoo"

The current WiP is: The Future in Time (contemporary mystery, Christianne and Rory (third sequel), written NaNoWriMo 2021)
I didn't finish it during NaNo, so I worked on it during CampNaNoWriMo

I wrote a new poem and a couple of other orts, submitted an older short story to SIWC and have spent a lot of the summer editing Larksong! The goal is to finish this round of edits before NaNoWriMo. I have some very ambitious plans for this year's NaNo...

Writing Wrap-Up by Decade update! This is the third installment, two years after the second (note: I don't seem to have kept track of every houseparty in the recap posts, unfortunately, nor all the writing exercises on thelitforum.com).

2000: Some poetry. Some book and music reviews and essays in university newspapers. Probably some short stories

2001: Year-long travel column in Bizim Anadolu

2002: Started my YA An Arnavutkoy Spring, which takes place in Istanbul c. 1910

2003: Continuing work on the first draft of An Arnavutkoy Spring

2004: Year-long book review column in Bizim Anadolu

2005: No recollection. Probably some stuff saved on old memory sticks

2006: Joined the Compuserve Books and Writers Community. (A direct result of reading the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. Thank you, Diana!)

2007: Started MG/YA The Face of A Lion! Wrote a short story called He Ain't Heavy and submitted it to the SIWC Storyteller contest. Started this blog.

2008: Working on The Face of A Lion, writing and editing and researching. Wrote a couple of columns for Bizim Anadolu.

2009: Finished The Face of A Lion and began sending it out to agents! Started a new novel, set in 1492 (Out of the Water). Wrote a few columns and books reviews for Bizim Anadolu. Wrote two short pieces for the staff newsletter at work

2010: Lots of editing and research for The Face of A Lion, and then in the summer, the Cherry Hill and Constantinople writers' houseparties happened. I began drafting Out of the Water in earnest, including during NaNoWriMo. Also had a dream of a story that finally saw the light of day as my 2013 NaNoWriMo project.

2011: The year of Out of the Water -- endless drafts and editing and research and query preparation. NaNoWriMo project was Rome, Rhymes, and Risk, which I typed up later in the spring.

2012: Drafted a paranormal novella, Druid's Moon, over the summer, as well as a short story called At Summer's End. NaNoWriMo project was Captive of the Sea. Wrote a very rough draft of a short mystery that takes place in time between Out of the Water and Captive of the Sea. Reworked two very old pieces and shared some ancient writing snips on the blog.

2013: Shelved all other stories in order to edit and query Druid's Moon. Typed up Captive of the Sea. Wrote a vignette on New York City. Wrote a short story called Where's There's Life, which was shortlisted for the SIWC Storyteller award. NaNoWriMo project was Alice and George's story, Larksong (the dream from 2010!).

2014: Ongoing book reviews. Transcription work for the Alfred Russel Wallace Correspondence Project. Typed up Larksong, did some editing of Druid's Moon. NaNoWriMo project was Peter and Penelope

2015: Some work on Druid's Moon and querying Out of the Water, and submitted a vignette as a Janet Reid flash fiction piece! Nearly finished typing up the NaNo 2013 story, Larksong. Wrote and edited an unexpected new short story ("One to Another") and submitted it to SIWC. Started a new novel during CampNaNoWriMo (The Heathen in the Hold)! Added a few hundred more words to a joint novel I'm writing (s l o w l y) with family members (The Horror of Horhor). NaNoWriMo project was At Bertram's Hotel

2016: Remembering the Kedi's Paw Badge of Honour Award! I also wrote a short piece remembering our cats, Frodo and Sam. Finished reading all 12 books in The History of Middle-earth series for the first time. NaNoWriMo project was The Charm of Time

2017Published Summer Fire!

2018: Never Have I Ever houseparty! Entered handwritten edits and did some research for The Handful of Time and Mystery at Bertram’s Hotel. Wrote two new short pieces, in August, Summer Blaze, featuring Valentina and Justin, and in December, "Blackbird’s Song", a ghost story featuring George from Larksong (and Alice in his dreams; later submitted to SIWC). You've done a lot of work over the past 22 years... I have never been to Spain, but one day....
Well done!
Really cool museum. Perfect for kids
Hi Deniz - you are so good at recording everything. While the trip to Barcelona looks so much fun - the kids would have definitely enjoyed all the exhibits ... the Scream looks incredible. Brilliant to see all the photos - cheers Hilary

Thank you all for not saying I'm posting too many photos at once, ha ha! It was such a fun trip, and much too short. I can't wait to go back!
